Fairness and performance belong together.
A professional perspective shaped by employment, international organizations, and running my own businesses.
Reliability works both ways
I know work as an employee and as someone responsible for a business. People need fair conditions and a manager who listens and follows through. The business depends on their contribution to serve customers and meet its obligations. I want those expectations to be understood on both sides.
How I work and the methods I use
I discuss what the role needs, what support the person can expect and what we are each committing to. Returning to that conversation helps us deal with changes before they become misunderstandings.
Methods include role clarification, agreed objectives, regular one-to-one conversations and specific feedback on cooperation.
Assess the role, not just the hours
When I assess performance, I look at the quality of the work, whether commitments are met and how colleagues and customers experience the result. Working arrangements need to fit the role. A service team with fixed opening hours faces different demands from a team that can organise its work more freely. I personally value working together on site, while recognising that other roles may benefit from a different arrangement.
How I work and the methods I use
I agree on results and quality standards that reflect the role. Customer feedback and the experience of colleagues help me understand the contribution behind the numbers.
Methods include role-specific outcome and quality criteria, delivery and service targets, customer feedback and a balanced assessment of individual contribution and team performance.
Design working models carefully
Flexible schedules, hybrid work and shorter working weeks deserve a considered discussion. I look at the work that needs doing, the people available and the service customers depend on. Before changing how people work, I want us to understand what it means for the team, where the pressure may shift and how we will keep our commitments to customers.
How I work and the methods I use
I work through the workload, coverage and handovers with the people affected. Where a trial makes sense, we agree in advance on what to watch and when to review it, then use that experience to improve the arrangement.
Methods include capacity and staffing plans, process analysis, cost comparison, a pilot and reviews with the teams affected.
Support development and make decisions
I take time to understand someone’s situation before judging their performance. That helps me choose useful support, give fair feedback and allow a realistic period for improvement. I also have to consider what the team and the business need from the role.
How I work and the methods I use
I make the development need specific, agree on support and review progress at a realistic interval. If the agreed improvement does not follow, I discuss the next decision openly, with the same care for the person and the team.
Methods include a development plan, coaching and feedback, skills assessment, documented objective reviews and clear follow-up agreements.
Where could my experience contribute?
Tell me about the role, the team and what you want to achieve. I would welcome the chance to discuss how my experience could help.
